Blog Series: Pursue Godliness

What is Godliness?

To put it in simple terms, it is living a fruitful, obedient Christian life. It is one of seven qualities we are instructed to add to our faith after we become Christians.  Paul writes to Timothy pursue godliness.

But you, man of God, flee from these things, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness.

1 Timothy 6:11

If you have been following along, this month we are going to look at pursuing godliness. There are 16 references to godliness in the New Testament.  Most of all of them occur in 1 and 2nd Timothy and 2 Peter.  We are going to examine what Paul, Peter and Jude had to say about godliness and do some deep holy introspection of our hearts.  We are going to examine what godliness is, what it is not, it’s prerequisites, it’s barriers, it’s potential influence in our lives, and then consider how to grow in godliness through personal application.  At the close of the month, we will look at one of my favorite characters in the Bible: Daniel.  Daniel is an excellent person to study when we speak on the topic of godliness.  Finally, we will look at Proverbs 31 and the “Godly Woman.” Included in the Journal you will find on the back pages a table set up you can fill in to compare and contrast heavenly wisdom and worldly wisdom.

There also extra pages to include personal application of what we are studying.  It gives us thought to ponder as we look within ourselves and the topic of godliness.  I pray this series leads you on a journey of finding freedom in God’s Truth to pursuing godliness!
