God comes to us first.

One of the most beautiful love stories comes from the book of Ruth. The layers and depth of that book is amazing! On the surface we read Boaz was Ruth first. Then he pursued her. Its a deeper picture of God’s love for us.

We must first recognize that ALL our love is in response to His love. God’s love comes to us first. He initiated it, first.

Before we met God, we were rebels running from God. We were children of darkness dead in our sins.

And you were dead in your trespasses and sins in which you previously walked according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit now working in the disobedient. We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also. But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us,

Ephesians 2:1-4

We did not care about God or the things of God so were spiritually dead.

In our dead slumber, God’s love broke through. He shattered the chains of bondage, rescued us from our dark prisons and deep pits, and broke through the lies to shout and proclaim His love for us. God initiated the conversation, the calling and the meeting.

We love others because it was God who loved us first. It’s the response to a God whom we have experienced His love, that we are able to love others.
