When you begin to understand passion, what fuels your heart, you begin to understand that you need a rock foundation. You decide to willingly let Christ, through the Holy Spirit, rebuilt the foundation of your life through God’s Word and Truth. The next step to having a soul’s passion for Christ is to build your life.
Building your life in Jesus means you intentionally build your life on His values. What you value and treasure most will determine everything about your life. If Jesus is your treasure and value, His teachings will be the source and framework of your value system. Your value system is what reflects your passion.
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus’ preaching included the beatitudes. They are a controlling paradigm for a christian’s life values. They furnish a framework of good works in response to the groundwork of God’s work in our lives. They are also much more than that.
They are not just a set of ethical guidelines, they maintain compatibility between beliefs and behavior. Take a moment to read each one. Ask yourself as you read:
What does Jesus say?
What does it mean to my life?
What do I need to do in obedience?
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Matthew 5:3-11
Now a vital question: Do your personal values reflect Jesus’ values?
Jesus pronounces blessings upon those who live by His values in contrast to those who are merely interested in what He has to give them or can do for them.
Are you giving all authority to the Rock who saved you?
By hearing His Word and putting them to practice, is He the passion of your life?
