When Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount that is recorded on Matthew 7, He gave us instructions for laying the right kind of foundation to you lives. In the parable, He compared two builders who both built a house.
The first man dug deep and laid a stone foundation.
The second man built His house without a foundation on a sandy surface.
A storm came and the first man’s home stood, but the second man’s home was destroyed.
Both men experienced a storm in their lives. Storms and suffering do not discern people. We will all experience storms and suffering in unexpected moments of our lives. They do not distinguish between a wide man and a fool.
The two builders were alike externally, but internally, very different in critical ways. Let us consider these distinctions between a “wide” man and a “foolish” man:
Character: A wise man applies the knowledge he has, while a foolish man rejects what is in his best interest.
Authority: A wise man value’s Jesus’ words and makes HIm authority, while a foolish man hears but disregards Jesus’ recommendations.
Outcome: A wise man will survive life’s storms, while a foolish man’s life will be smashed to ruins by storms.
How do we build a stable life on the Rock?
24 “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matthew 7:24
Hearing Jesus’ Words is not enough; we must live by those words. Jesus’ message must be heard and lived. This makes wisdom a reality in our lives. Jesus is where we find our passion of Life.
31 Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you continue in my word, you really are my disciples. 32 You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32
