I can not recall where I read it, but I read a thing that said, all religions are like a river and flow into the same sea. This is a popular thought in the world today.
When we claim Jesus alone grants salvation, people are offended and say we are intolerant.
If we do not allow others to practice their beliefs, we are intolerant.
But if we proclaim the Bible is the Truth, that is not intolerant. Rather, it is intolerant to attack Christians for simply practicing and proclaiming what the Bible says.
We live in a pluralistic and we must boldly affirm the uniqueness of Jesus that salvation is through Jesus alone.
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
Jesus is the Way
Jesus makes a very exclusive claim and God is not shy to make this claim. In the Old Testament, the first commandment says:
3 Do not have other gods besides me. Exodus 20:3
Jesus proclaims that He is the only way to the Father. In the Old Testament days, only the high priests could enter the Holy of Holies. God rejected it as a means of approaching Him. (Lev 10:2, Lev 16, Exodus 26:33)
Jesus boldly claims that NO ONE can come to the Father except through Him. Jesus is the only way to the Father.
Jesus is the Truth
17 for the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:17
Before we met Christ, we were living in a world of darkness.
18 They are darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them and because of the hardness of their hearts.
Ephesians 4:18
But all praise be to God because the truth that Jesus gives us sets us free from the bondage of sin!
32 You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32
Jesus alone is the embodiment of complete truth. Jesus alone reveals God’s Truth through the Holy Spirit. The following are verses to reflect upon when we speak of Jesus being the whole truth and nothing less.
14 The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
40 But now you are trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do this. John 8:40
45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. 46 Who among you can convict me of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? John 8:45-46
37 “You are a king then?” Pilate asked. “You say that I’m a king,” Jesus replied. “I was born for this, and I have come into the world for this: to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” John 18:37
This is a very small sample of scripture, but we get the idea. Jesus is the truth and we can trust Him and His Word. As disciples, we must also be people of truth. Our lives must be marked with moral integrity. This only comes through Jesus.
Jesus is Life
Jesus is the way because He is life. John writes that all of life was created by Jesus (1:3). He continues that Jesus has life in Himself (1:4). Since Jesus Jesus is life, He gives eternal life to those who receive Him (3:16). Before we received Christ we were dead men in our treaspasses.
2 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins Ephesians 2:1
We lived physically, but spiritually we were dead. Jesus graciously granted us eternal life when we received Him.
20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know the true one. We are in the true one—that is, in his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 1 John 5:20
We do not follow Jesus because He gives us life, we follow Him because He IS LIFE!
We can boldly declare that IN JESUS leads the way, reveals truth, and is Life!
I AM who I AM
I AM: the Bread of Life
I AM: the Light of the World
I AM: the Door
I AM: the Good Shepherd
I AM: the Resurrection and Life
I AM: the Way, the Truth, the Life
I AM: the True Vine
