I cannot begin to tell you how many years I sat waiting for an outside miracle to change my mind. When I write, change my mind, I mean the renewing of my mind. I was looking for some external happening, a change in circumstance, to come along and somehow supernaturally fix my issues inside of me. Those miracles will never come until you get rid of the chaos of your mind by filling it with God’s Word.
Renewing of the mind will never work if you carry on with excuses like, “The reason my mind is so negative is because my life is hard.” A thought: did you ever consider the reason your life is so hard is because your mind is so negative? Stop making your mind a sidewalk for satan to trample on. Instead, make your mind a disciple to the Word of God.
4 As he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Matthew 13:4
The type of ground the birds stole the seed was along the path. If we allow our minds to be a party house to the devil, we will never have a chance of the Word of God to bring change. The birds will steal it from your heart.
Israel thought that if they had more miracles, they would have their minds changed. Many of them died as victims to their own mind in the wilderness. Even though they witnessed miracles more miracles than any other generation, they were still slaves to their mind. The Pharisees believed the same lie. If Jesus would only do a few more miracles, then they could somehow believe. Look at all they asked of Jesus. If you just prove you are who you say you are we will believe. The Israelites did the same thing, so we can imagine that we can do the same thing. Even when Jesus did supernatural things, including His resurrection, the Pharisees did not believe.
We need miracles, but miracles alone will not change our minds without humility and the free will choice to make God’s Word the standard in our lives. The sun that melts the ice is also the sun that hardens the clay. Miracles are like that. For those hungry for the the Word of God, miracles help our faith. Those who refuse the Word of God to have dominion over their lives, there will never be enough miracles. If we stop blaming our circumstances and continually trying to change the external factors, it will open the door for God to start working in us in a powerful way.
8 This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to meditate on it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do. Joshua 1:8
2 Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2
It is only the wonder working power of God that transforms our hearts and renews our mind.
