Genesis 7:1
Everyone is captivated by the awe-inspiring tale of Noah and the Ark. This is a narrative so monumental and miraculous. Even Hollywood struggled to portray its grandeur. This epic story is filled with extraordinary moments that resonate deeply within us. It all begins in Genesis 6, where we learn of God’s profound sorrow over mankind’s creation. In a mere 1,600 years since the dawn of creation, the darkness of our wickedness reached an insurmountable level. The Lord gazed upon His creation. He found a world tainted by selfishness and sinful depravity. It was a stark reflection of souls completely stripped of His divine image.
8 Noah, however, found favor with the Lord.
Genesis 6:8
What was so special about Noah?
9 These are the family records of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among his contemporaries; Noah walked with God.
Genesis 6:9
Noah was a righteous man standing tall amidst a wicked generation, embodying an unwavering godly character. He lived blamelessly, fiercely honoring God while the world around him spiraled into sin and despair. For Noah, this must have been an excruciatingly challenging journey—navigating a life that defied the very currents of society. He resisted the relentless pull of unrighteousness. He fought against the crushing waves of peer pressure. He bravely battled the deep, human desires for acceptance and belonging.
Noah never gave in. He stayed strong in the face of that pressure. He found favor in God’s eyes as a righteous man of faith.
7 By faith Noah, after he was warned about what was not yet seen and motivated by godly fear, built an ark to deliver his family. By faith he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
Hebrews 11:7
When God spoke, Noah’s heart ignited with unwavering conviction. He stood firm, resisting the seductive pull of popular opinion. Without a hint of doubt, he embraced God’s command with fervent belief. Noah constructed the Ark with every ounce of his faith. He was driven by a profound trust that soared even before the first raindrop fell.
I can only fathom the immense ridicule Noah must have faced. Picture the onlookers, scoffing as he tirelessly constructs that colossal ark for… rain. What even was rain? It was a concept unknown to them! Envision his wife wandering through the village, procuring supplies while enduring the stinging whispers and judgmental glances. Yet, through it all, Noah stood resolute, unwavering in his faith. Why, you ask? Because he understood that God had a magnificent plan unfolding! As a forebear of Jesus, this remarkable man embodies the essence of righteousness. He serves as a beacon of living by faith, an unwavering testament to following the Lord with unshakable belief!
But Noah is not the most important figure in this story! Besides God, who can you guess it is?
It’s the ark! The beloved picture of Christ. The ark contained only one door. Jesus said:
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 14:6
Like the ark that held the sole door leading to salvation from the deluge, Jesus stands as that one and only door (John 10:9) to eternal life! Noah and his family were not merely saved by belief; they were saved by their unshakeable faith in God. Their salvation was not passive; it thrived on obedience and a profound trust in their Creator. Because of their unwavering belief, they received the glorious invitation to enter the ark. They embraced the promise of safety amidst the storm!
Today, we stand at the threshold of an extraordinary opportunity! We can be rescued from the wrath of God through the incredible gift of salvation—Jesus Christ Himself! This is the essence of Christmas! Let’s ignite our passion this holiday season. We should commit to bringing at least one soul into the ark of salvation with us. Who can you passionately introduce to Jesus today?
