15 Proclaim these things; encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you.
Titus 2:!5
Proclaim, Encourage, Rebuke
These three powerful verbs illuminate the vibrant essence of communication. Titus needed to embrace this essence as he fervently ministered to the saints. The sequence in which Paul presents them reveals a profound progression of purpose. The first and most vital step is to boldly declare the truth with unwavering conviction. The next imperative is to ignite the hearts of the people, inspiring them to put that truth into passionate practice. Finally, it becomes essential to rebuke those who falter in their obedience. This action ensures the integrity of the message remains uncompromised.
The best illustration I have seen used is a baseball batter learning to bat. A baseball coach teaches his students how to play baseball.
- Step 1 – This is your bat, a powerful extension of your spirit! Feel the rush as you swing it fiercely into the ball, unleashing energy to strike it with pure fervor!
- Step 2 – Grasp the bat tightly! Feel the adrenaline as you position your hands close together. Step boldly up to the plate, heart pounding in anticipation. Now, let that swing be a celebration of your determination!
- Step 3 – You were too far from the plate! Embrace this moment! Ground yourself beside that plate with unwavering resolve! Don’t allow hesitation to hold you back. Take a deep breath, ignite that passion, and swing with all your heart!
Spiritual truths ignite a fervent understanding within us. It is unjust to chastise a soul who has yet to grasp the distinctions between right and wrong. With deeper insight comes an essential obligation to transform that knowledge into action. The very term “rebuke” resounds with the expectation that believers wholeheartedly adhere to the wisdom of Scripture.
Let no one disregard you
Titus may have been timid, yet he must awaken to the undeniable authority of Scripture that stands unwaveringly behind him! He cannot sit idly by while false teachers and divisive figures trample on God’s Word and lead others astray. It is imperative for Titus to boldly stand resolute on the truth, fueled by courage that cannot be shaken. While opinions and preferences might bend, Biblical truth must remain unyielding! Know when to take a stand. Some arguments simply aren’t worth your time. However, there are battles that demand a fight. If you find yourself warning people in a burning building to escape, you cannot allow them to disregard your plea. The same fierce urgency applies when you proclaim the truth of Scripture within the church!
