Exploring Coheirs in Christ: A Call for Unity

I was made a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace that was given to me by the working of his power.

This grace was given to me—the least of all the saints—to proclaim to the Gentiles the incalculable riches of Christ, and to shed light for all about the administration of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things. 10 This is so that God’s multi-faceted wisdom may now be made known through the church to the rulers and authorities in the heavens.

Ephesians 3:7-10

What is the incredible mystery that Paul speaks of?

It is exhilarating that Gentiles and Jews can unite as one. They come together as beloved members of the same magnificent family! Just picture the wonder of such a reality—it once seemed beyond our wildest dreams! Is there someone in your heart who deserves forgiveness? Is there a fractured relationship yearning for healing? What bold step can you take this week to start mending that precious bond?

The word “fellow”

Some versions use the word “fellow.” This powerful term embodies the deep bond that believers of all races and backgrounds can forge with one another. “Fellow” signifies a profound sense of equality, representing a peer-to-peer, horizontal relationship. Yet, it transcends mere equality, revealing the vibrant companionship and intimate closeness between individuals. “Fellow” evokes the warmth of a buddy, a pal, a cherished friend. In this beautiful tapestry of faith, there is no room for enmity among believers from diverse groups. Instead, a spirit of friendship and uplifting encouragement flourishes. Thus, believers must cast aside any notions of superiority over others and embrace a heart devoid of prejudice.

This adjective describes three nouns: heirs, members, and partakers

The Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same body, and partners in the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

Ephesians 3:6
(Bold for emphasis)

All three vibrantly express our deep connection to God. As His cherished sons and daughters, we are His precious heirs, intricately woven into the very fabric of His body. We wholeheartedly partake in His glorious promise. It is exclusively through our profound relationship with God that we can truly connect with one another. Our bonds with each other are deeply anchored in our divine relationship with the Almighty. This is the essence, the very heartbeat of our existence.

The truth of unity in Christ doesn’t apply to everyone

Look around you in the world and see the conflicts raging even between Israel and its neighbors. These struggles are rooted in political, religious, and cultural grievances. They remind us how deeply division can permeate societies. This truth only applies to those who have accepted the gospel. It highlights a profound spiritual understanding that transcends human discord. It offers hope and redemption to those willing to embrace its message. The gospel serves as a beacon amidst turmoil. It calls individuals to unite under a common purpose. It promotes peace and healing in a fragmented world. (see the end of verse 6, which says “through the gospel.”),
