How do you share God’s Love?
Today we challenge ourselves in how we treat others as you would want to be treated. The story of Peter’s mother in law, offers us inspiration to honor God in all your relationships.
How many times did you hear:
“DO unto others as you would have them do unto you?” (Matthew 7:12)
More than likely more times than you can count. Yet, did you ever seriously consider that this is not a suggestion. This is a command. Do you consider that the way you treat others impact the people around you?
Consider this scenario: WHen chatting with a friend, who is often taken advantage of, she questions why this happens to her. She asks “Am I doing something wrong? Do they just not care? Or could it be that they do not realize how their actions make me feel?“
We have all been on both sides of this conversation. Do you do unto them as they have done to you? God does not ask us to be doormats. He does expect us to love in both action and words. We must strive to treat others in ways that honor God and represent our devotion to Him.
There are only a few verses in God’s Word that describe Peter’s mother in law. It is obvious she loved others well and was deeply loved by many. Luke reported that “everyone begged” for her to be healed. Then we see clearly the love she displayed by her immediate response to serve everyone once she was healed.
Courageously do unto others by implementing the following:
- Ask others how you can pray for them and spend time praying over their requests.
- Let someone know you care by making a call, visiting them, or preparing that person a meal.
- Take responsibility for your words and actions that have caused hurt or offense, likewise, forgive those who have hurt or offended you.
- Look for opportunity to preform random acts of kindness.
- Never return hurt for hurt.
The ways others speak of us will reveal the ways we have treated them or mistreated them. God expects us to express our love for others in both action and words.
Think of someone you have mistreated and reach out to that person today with an apology and an act of kindness.
