How do we have a good and godly attitude in difficult situations?
Today’s scripture leads us in how to have a mindset of faith no matter the circumstances as we look at the courageous life of Esther.
15 Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: 16 “Go and assemble all the Jews who can be found in Susa and fast for me. Don’t eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my female servants will also fast in the same way. After that, I will go to the king even if it is against the law. If I perish, I perish.”
Esther 4:15-16
Our attitudes and choices reveal the depth of our commitment to the Lord.
Faith is taking God at His Word. Faith is believing God is all-powerful, all-knowing, ever present, faithful and true. Our faith is seen in our perspectives and attitudes. God inspires us to have a mindset that is godly and to pursue this mindset we often see through out the godly people of His Word.
Esther for example, was a courageous Hebrew woman. God commissioned this woman to deliver the nation of Israel. In her heroic story, we discover the King of Persia, Xerxes, chose her to be queen.
Esther was admired by everyone who saw her (Esther 2:15). She was also loved by the king, more than any other woman he had (Esther 2:17). She did not let her royalty and fame to impact her character. While her people were being persecuted, Esther consistently displayed a gentle, merciful, humble, and courageous attitude.
We also looked at Matthew 5:1-12. These passages are refereed to as the Beatitudes. Jesus describes eight attitudes we are to pursue and Esther most certainly has them all. She exemplified these beautifully.
Courageously maintain a faith-filled attitude by practicing the Beatitudes:
- Humility. Be humbly aware that without Christ we are spiritually bankrupt.
- Sorrow. BE sorrowful over your sin and moral decay of the world.
- Gentleness. Be gentle as you respond and react and relate to those around you.
- Desperation. Hunger and thirst for Christ like behavior. Pursue Him as if your life depended upon it.
- Mercy. Be generous and compassionate towards those in need.
- Morality. Strive for moral purity in your thoughts and actions.
- Harmony. Be peacemakers who desire wholeness in broken relationships.
- Perseverance. Stand firm in your faith even when you are persecuted.
As ambassadors for Christ, we are to strive to maintain these attitudes. In return, we will receive the blessing associated with each one.
Which of these Beatitudes do you struggle with?
Pray and ask God to help you in courageously exercising this attitude today.
