Are you overcommitted?

Commitments in our lives can change our lives in many ways. For Ruth, it changed her life forever. Today, let us challenge our hearts to analyze our commitments and priorities and let us choose the ones that honor God.

Each day we are given 24 hours. Not a minute more or a minute less. We often try to squeeze something or someone into every waking crevice of our day. This only leaves just enough, and barely for some, time to sleep. Then we get up and do it all over again.

When we make commitments we need to be mindful of where they fit into our goals, objectives, and schedules. Above all, we must also consider them and how they fit into God’s plan and purpose for our lives.

After prayerfully considering these factors we need to not procrastinate. IT is time for action. We need to be diligent in analyzing and prioritizing our commitments on a regular basis to avoid anxiety while maintaining a balance to our schedules.

In the book of Ruth we read of a story of a young woman who is a daughter in law. She makes a bold decision and lifelong commitment that forever changed her life. This commitment was to her deceased husband’s mother. Ruth had married into a family that worshiped the one true God. When it came time for her to make the choice to return to her family and the gods they served or travel with Naomi to an unfamiliar land, she chose her commitment wisely.

Courageously analyze and prioritize your commitments by asking yourself the following questions:

  • What commitments have I made?
  • What commitments do I need to make?
  • Are there any commitments I need to eliminate?
  • How dedicated to these commitments am I?
  • Do my commitments honor the Lord?
  • DO my commitments reveal the glory of God?
  • Do my commitments take me away from fellowship and intimacy from God?

God will give us everything we need to make courageous God honoring commitments. He promises to be with us along the way and bless us in response to our dedication.

Today, let us analyze and prioritize commitments. Let us make the ones God is encouraging us to make and eliminate the ones He is encouraging us to eliminate. Let us put aside our procrastination and take action.
