Influence.
In a social media driven world, we want influence and to be influenced. With that comes a great stewardship responsibility. We live in a culture that applies constant pressure to “build a platform” of influence. It seems natural to want to be insta-famous.
Many people use their platforms for good. However, that pressure of insta-famous can become dangerous very quickly. It is easy to justify self-promotion. Peter tells to humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand that He will lift you up in due time.
What is Peter saying?
It is really clear. Our roles are to humble ourselves under God’s leadership and sovereignty. God’s role is to do the heavy lifting. When my heart is the healthiest, God is doing the lifting. When my heart is the nastiest, I’m jockeying for position and credit or applause.
Let us focus each day on humbling ourselves under God’s leadership and sovereignty. Let what God says about you define you. Take on the role as a servant and embrace it. Do not act to be noticed, instead act within the secret of no one seeing what you are doing. Take full advantage of opportunities to lift others up and give others credit where it is due. Give God the credit and applause.
Your Job: humble yourself
God’s Job: lift you up
Thoughts to Ponder:
- Are you seeking attention and applause from the world?
- What do you struggle with when it comes to being humble and serving?
- Do you take credit for what others have done? Do you get jealous at the applause and attentions others get?
- How can you be more humble and serving?
