No Wasted Time

My therapist told me there were two ways to ask a “why” question:

As an accusation. You vent your frustration and might even accuse God of not being fair.

Part of Worship. God, why am I here and do you have an assignment for me?

For a high achiever like Paul, being kept in custody for two years must have looked like a waste of time, or was it? We can imagine there was so much more he could do outside of captivity. Yesterday we read about Governor Felix. DO you know who his wife was? His wife was Drusilla. IN today’s reading we read Paul giving testimony as a defense to some very important people. King Herod Agrippa II, his sister Bernice, and ,any high ranking military officials were present.

So the next day, Agrippa and Bernice came with great pomp and entered the auditorium with the military commanders and prominent men of the city. When Festus gave the command, Paul was brought in.

Acts 25:23

Do you know who Agrippa, Bernice and Drusilla are? They were all the great-grandchildren of Kin Herod the Great.

But the Lord said to him, “Go, for this man is my chosen instrument to take my name to Gentiles, kings, and Israelites.

Acts 9:15

Can you see it now? Everything was unfolding exactly as God planned. Why was Paul here? What was Paul doing? Preaching to the Gentiles and their kings! In the mix of this was Roman Emperor Caesar himself.

Look, I understand where you are! It is so frustrating to get stuck in the middle of “in-betweens.” Listen closely, there is no wasted time in God’s economy. DO not let your current situation blind you!

Look at what Paul later wrote to the Philippians:

so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard, and to everyone else, that my imprisonment is because I am in Christ. 14 Most of the brothers have gained confidence in the Lord from my imprisonment and dare even more to speak the word fearlessly.

Philippians 1:13-14

Let us keep asking why, but make it apart of our worship.

God, why am I here?
DO you have an assignment for me?
What do you want to achieve because of my current situation?

  • When was the last time something unexpected happen because of a bad situation?
  • How has that experience helped you go through your current challenges?
