Welcome to a brand new month and a brand new series!
When we accepted and received Christ as our Savior, the “normal” we once knew no longer exists! Our old nature and old ways of doing things were the world’s way and we threw that in the grave and nailed our flesh to the cross with Christ, but many people spend time praying that their lives “return to the normal they once knew.” Have you ever prayed that? Lord, I just want things to go back how they used to be. We can find ourselves missing the comfort and routine that we were accustomed to and used to. Work, school, social life, travel….
Many talk about a new “normal.” They seek a new world that is very different from the old. The greatest problem is we have no idea what a new normal looks like or how long it will take us to get there. We start to become apprehensive and reluctant sojourners in finding our bearings “in between normals.”
The people of Israel had also experienced their fair share of “in-between.” Their country had been invaded and they were exiled to Babylon. The old way of life was gone and a new way of life had begun. Even so, God promised them a bright future. That future would not come for 70 years! IN the meantime they were stuck in-between two normals. So what did they do?
Let us first look at what God told His people:
For I know the plans I have for you”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11
An important lesson is given to us through the prophet Jeremiah! Even though we are between the normals, God is STILL in control! He knows exactly where we are and what is going on in our lives! There is always a HOPE and FUTURE in God!
SO what do we do?
You will call to me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and places where I banished you”—this is the Lord’s declaration. “I will restore you to the place from which I deported you.”
Jeremiah 29:11-14
Do you see it? In this season of being In-Between, we can still find God! Come to God! Pray to God! Seek God! We have no control over the environment, but we have a God who does. We have no control over what happens, but we do have control over how we respond to it!
Let us open our heart to answer this question:
In one year from now, what do you want to say about the “you” now?
Your response now will define your legacy when you land in the new normal.
