You are NOT your Past.

How many times do you replay your past in your mind?
How many conversations do you have with people from events of your past?
How many times have you tried in your mind to go back and “fix” what happened?

The devil will work overtime to make you remember and replay your past. He desires you to remember non-stop so that he can accuse you and shame you.

Sister, let this truth sink in DEEP into your heart: In Jesus you are blood washed and have become a new creature.

You are not your past!

Repeat that with me! YOU are NOT your past!

Let us say it again so those in the back can hear it: YOU ARE NOT YOUR PAST!

You are not the old person you used to be. You are brand new! You have a clean slate in Jesus. Your past does NOT determine your future! Your future is now in Jesus!

The reason the devil tries to get you to focus and remember your past is because he knows this truth and wants you to not walk in this truth. He wants to make your past a stronghold from sharing and walking in the truth. If the enemy can keep you trapped in your past and living in your past, he can keep you from becoming all that God has called you to be. Do not let the enemy have a foothold in your life.

I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Galatians 2:20

The old you has died and been crucified with Christ. When the enemy tries to bring up your past, and he will, you tell him what your future holds. Christ died for you to have a future, not to relive your past. You can not go back and change your past but you can step into this wonderful new future you have with Christ and live according to His Word and in victory!

  • What from your past are you still holding on to, to define who you are today?
  • How can you let go of those things and trust in the Lord to define who you are? Is it unforgiveness, repentance, or shame?
  • What about today’s scripture encourages or challenges you?
