Jesus again invites us a final time in the final letter to be overcomers. To those who overcome becomes a spiritual believer!
The throne in this scripture is the seat of authority and God has a throne because he is the ultimate authority.
16 Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16
It is God’s grace that proceeds from that throne. God has the right to give you grace. It is a right that comes from Himself, His person. God is Sovereign and Ruler of the universe.
Jesus has been given all authority by God to rule. Jesus then delegates some of His authority to us as believers. God gave David the authority to rule and gave Jesus the throne of David.
32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.
Luke 1:32
Jesus grants spiritual victors the right to rule with Him in his Millennial Kingdom. These Christians will share some of the prerogatives of Jesus’ royalty. Jesus fastens the victory of the spiritual Christian with His own victory on the cross. Jesus met with temptation and came out the victor. Because He did this, in His humanity, the Father gave Him authority to rule in the Father’s Kingdom.
There is a parallel between Christ’s victory and our victory.
There are two thrones in this verse: “My throne” and “His throne.”
There is the throne of Jesus, and then there is the throne of the Father. The throne of the Father is His sovereign rule over the universe. There is nothing that is not under His control in the universe. Jesus sat down at the “right hand of the Majesty on high” with His Father, at His Father’s right hand.
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of his nature, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
Hebrews 1:3
Spiritual Christians will rule with Christ in the Millennial Kingdom.
12 if we endure, we will also reign with him;
if we deny him, he will also deny us;
13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful,
for he cannot deny himself.2 Timothy 2:12-13
Never to this day has Jesus sat upon His throne in the Millennial Kingdom. That is yet future.
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.
Matthew 25:31
