Before we dive into God’s wisdom and the world’s wisdom, I think there are three important barriers to pursuing godliness. The first is our humanity. This is something we can not escape. We are human, born of Adam.
Our flesh, as the scripture says, is all we are without God. It is what we operated by and is what controlled everything we did before we met Christ and received Him as our Savior and before the Holy Spirit came to dwell within us.
Paul is describing how our old nature fights against our new nature. Our new nature is what Christ transforms within us. When He transforms us, we are given His perspective, His attitude, His righteousness, His goodness. Because our old nature is still within us, it fights against our new nature.
Our old nature likes to distract us, desires the temptations of sin, and carnal living.
19 Their end is destruction; their god is their stomach; their glory is in their shame; and they are focused on earthly things.
Philippians 3:19
Paul tells us that our flesh is our own destruction. The god of our flesh is the sinful desires. What our flesh glorifies, only brings us to shame. Our flesh focuses on earthly things and not the things of God.
Today, let us look within ourselves and put together a list of struggles between our flesh and our new nature. What struggles do you have? Let us take our list to the Lord and trust in Him to help us over come struggles and to give the victory over out hearts and minds.
