God Hates Sin.

Our God is perfectly holy.

And one called to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!”
And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.

Isaiah 6:3-4

The seraphim calling to one another, “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”

Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy, for I am the Lord your God.

Leviticus 20:7

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

1 Peter 1:14-16

It pleases the Lord when His people lead a holy life. Surely leading a righteous life has its own reward, but what greater reward is there than to be the object of the Lord’s love?

The prior verse noted that God finds the hollow gestures of those who deny His truth to be disgusting and offensive. Here, the same is said of the way such people live. The person who leads a life of persistent sin is guilty of doing what the Lord hates. His actions are distasteful to the Lord; the Hebrew term is often translated as “abomination.”

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

Romans 1:18

It is hard to imagine that God hates something. It is something we often over look. We love to dwell and teach that God loves, but we shy away from what He hates. God hates sin. He hates unrighteous living. Why?

Sin steals our peace and joy that comes from Him.

Sin kills the relationships He blesses our lives with. The gift of others is killed when we continually chose to sin.

Sin destroys us. Sin destroys our bodies. Sin destroys our minds when we believe the lies of the enemy and doubt who God is, Who He says we are, and His promises over our lives. Sin destroys our spirit. Sin separates us us from Him.

God is loving and faithful. HE forgives those who truly repent and turn to Him. He hates sin because sin is what destroys us and our relationship with Him. He loves righteousness because we are pursuing Him. He desires us to put Him first in all we do because He is perfect, holy, and knows the path. He wants to lead us and teach us. He wants us to have abundant lives in Him, and only in Him.

Today, let us ponder how sin steals, kills, and destroys. What areas is sin working in your life today? He is faith to brink victory over every battle in our lives. Let us take these things to Him this morning and make a commitment to pursue Him and His righteousness over the world’s ways.
