Honor those who fear the Lord.

Yesterday we started our journey through verse 4 of Psalm 15. Yesterday we learned to despise sin and today we get a “but.” As David wrote this Psalm, he advises to give honor to those who fear the Lord.

The Hebrew root word is kāḇaḏ. It means make honourable, honour, glorify, usually with human subject. Here is our Ponder question early: Who has your ear? Who do you go to for advice, to listen to, to seek direction?

This is a very important question. A person who seeks the presence of God and to worship Him in HIs presence is someone who has great reverence for the Lord. That is what is meant when we say the fear of the Lord.

In contrast to yesterday, we are encouraged to esteem and respect those who are submissive, reverent, and obedient to God. A righteous person respects those who honor God and rejects the lifestyles of those who hate Him.

14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

2 Corinthians 6:14-16

This partly includes refusing to partner with evil people in evil activities. The apostle Paul commands the righteous person to choose to honor those who fear the Lord. He tells us to not be unequally yoked because righteousness can not fellowship with the unrighteous, light can not dwell with darkness, and do not come into agreement over idols.

The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.

Proverbs 12:26

Today, let us consider who do we admire most and why? Is there interest in a person for the wrong reasons?

Are the voices I am building my life upon faithful Jesus followers or worldly consults?
