The 31st chapter of Jeremiah is God speaking to all of captive Israel that He is going to rescue them and restore to them what was once the best of their days.
The KJV says:
For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.
Jeremiah 31:25
Throughout God’s Word, He is constantly reminding us that He promises to be there for is in everyway! He holds nothing back and soaks our souls with constant infilling of Him. His love is an all encompassing breath of sweetness and it keeps flowing in His Spirit.
The Phrase “I have satisfied” is rāvâ in Hebrew and means, to drink one’s fill, or become drunk upon. God fills up our cup in our hears to overfilling. Notice this is written in present tense, I have. God did not say I will or I did, he says, right now!
The word “weary” here in Hebrew is ʿāyēp̄ and means faint, exhausted, thirsty. We can see why the CSB translated it to say God fills our hunger and thirst. We may jump to the idea of physical thirst and hunger. God fills our physical needs, but also our emotional and spiritual needs.
The phrase, “I have replenished” is the Hebrew word mālā’ and means to fill, satisfy, accomplish, complete.
Finally, that word “sorrowful” is from the Hebrew word dā’aḇ and means faint.
God consistently promises to be there for us in every way. God embraces us with His presence and in this embrace He flushes out the toxins which invade our mind, our will and emotions and rejuvenates us with strength, encouragement and peace.
Imagine all of God being poured into our soul and saturating it with abundance. Everything we need is poured into our hearts.
There are times when we have battled through many a storm and chased away the clouds in prayer and all that is left within us is to surrender. In these moments of heaviness words or actions of a noble heart can still leave us wanting. But God pours Himself into the deep places of our weariness and bathes us in His warmth and healing light to replenish us with more than what has been stolen from us.
God desires us to draw closer to Him and recognize our great need for Him every moment of every day. When He formed us He put inside each one of us a dependence upon Him.
If we do not allow God to fill the areas in our life that sometimes can feel empty through situations, we will position ourselves to accept the emptiness the world has to offer and in so doing we make the empty hole bigger and deeper.
Every morning we can turn to God and ask Him to fill us up and refresh our weary souls.
