Imagine the Lord your God came and told you that you would not die without having seen the Messiah. You are well in your years, at the temple, perhaps praying for the Messiah, and one day two teenagers, with a little boy in their arms walks through the entrance, and there He is! Simeon was a devout man of God. He had been waiting for the consultation and hope of Israel. Simeon lifted up his arms in praise to God declaring he had finally seen salvation.
We do not have to live in anxiety and fear. Jesus was born so that we, like Simeon, would cease from our waiting, hoping and stiving. God sent His Son as surety for our salvation. The Lord’s promises for His people are always certain. God fulfilled His promise to Simeon, and continues to fulfill His promises to us today, tomorrow, and forever. Christmas came as a demonstration of that certainty. Let us rest in Him!
Ponder: How does Christmas give you hope of God’s Promises?
