As we read through Galatians, a letter from Paul to the church in Galatia, we find him retelling the story of Christmas. Paul recounts the setting, the who, and the plot and results.
Imagine for a moment we are sitting around a fire listening to Paul tell the story of Christmas.
When the time came to completion, a time of waiting was over. An anticipation for a promised One had ended and God in his infinite wisdom was right on time.
God sent His son, born of a woman. Jesus came that Christmas morning as God in the flesh. This was a divinely strange combination that made Jesus perfectly qualified for His mission on earth.
Jesus was born under the law to redeem those under the law. There had never been someone like Jesus with the power to set all of us free. We needed someone who was tempted like us under the law, but who overcame that temptation to live a perfect and righteous life. On the cross, God punished Jesus for our sins and transgressions of the law. It is by faith we receive God’s grace, and credited with the perfect law keeping of Jesus.
Because of the first Christmas, Jesus came so that we might receive adoption as sons. For everyone who receives the work of Jesus by faith can be reconciled to their Heavenly Father. We are no longer enemies to God. We are now God’s beloved.
Paul gives us the Christmas story in two sentences.
Ponder: How do you tell the Christmas story to others? What details are the most important?
