Unexpected Visit

The encounter between Mary and the angel always makes me in awe and wonder. I am sure it must have been an unexpected visit by Mary. I wonder what she was doing in the moment the angel came. Mary did not come from a prominent background. She was insignificant in society. She was just a teenager who encountered an angel from the Lord. It begs a question: why would God choose someone who, lets be honest, was no one in particular?

Like all things with God, the answer is simple: she believed God.

Even if the world saw nothing special about Mary, God did. God had found favor with her. When we read about the great Men of the Bible, we read, they had favor with the Lord. Moses had favor. Joseph had favor. Now, Mary has favor. She was a woman consumed with a godly faith that persevered living in the midst of confusion and fear. Mary was so convinced of the promises of God that she could say as a virgin about to give birth, I am the Lord’s servant, may it be done according to your word. Nine months later, Christmas came on time and God’s promise that she believed was fulfilled.

Ponder: Why is it difficult to trust God when our circumstances seem difficult?
