The Tabernacle, later the temple, was a place for sinful humanity to interact with a holy God. The Lord God Almighty met with His people and accepted sacrifices and dwelled with His people. The intensity of God was shielded by a thick veil, but Israel remembered the days before Adam and Eve’s sin when God walked among them, together in harmony. They, and we know, our sin keeps us from the presence of God. That is, until the first Christmas morning. God dwelt in a new temple made of flesh. All of the glory of God dwelled in a tiny baby born that day. God’s promise was fulfilled in Jesus. Jesus comes to us all, full of grace and truth, to lead us back to the Father and God initiated this to happen.
Ponder: Why do you think it’s important that God initiated salvation?
