“Let there be Light.”

IN the beginning, God said, “Let there be light.” When God spoke, there was light. With the power of His Word, God illuminated the darkness. John uses the story of creation to tell us about the coming Jesus. In the same way God spoke light into existence, another light was coming. Jesus is the coming light of the world to illuminate our hearts like a candle in the night. Jesus is going to reveal the darkness and then bring His people into the light.

This is good news for those in the dark. Sin and corruption reign upon the earth. People reject God and worship their own idols. Many refuse the wisdom of the Lord and follow their own ways blindly. The true Light will come into the world and expose evil, wicked selfish hearts. Jesus will shine His light into the world so many can see their sin exposed in the light and follow Jesus back to the Father.

One dark Christmas night, the Light was born. Jesus had come!

Ponder: What do you think it means to live in the light?
