God has given us a gift. This gift does not come wrapped under the tree but wrapped in swaddled cloth. In grace, God freely gave us His Son. This child we celebrate is given “for us,” according to Isaiah’s prophecy. This Son will take His rightful place over all the governments of the earth. Israel watched a revolving cycle of failed kings over them. Another nation had taken them captive and they had been returned to bondage. This new Leader would not be a disappointment.
Jesus IS the Wonderful Counselor. His wisdom and discernment as a leader is trustworthy.
Jesus IS the Mighty God. He is God in the flesh and a powerful sovereign Lord cloaked in humility.
Jesus IS the Eternal Father. He protects and cares for those under His rule.
Jesus IS the Prince of Peace. One day the nations will no longer struggle and contend against each other, for all of us will be brought into harmony under one rule. His rule!
This is the gift of Christmas. Jesus came to set up a new kingdom on earth and He reigns justly, mightily, and is a wonderful God-King.
