Moses was a hero to Israel. God chose Moses to confront Pharoah and to lead the Israelites out of slavery and bondage to Egypt. He was given authority over them in the wilderness. Moses couldn’t live forever. The book of Deuteronomy serves as the last sermon given to the Israelites before his death and their entrance into the Promised Land.
He tells them that God has promised to send a new prophet. This new prophet will be another hero in Israel to lead the people back to God. More than a thousand years later they under the rule of Rome. On that first Christmas in Bethlehem God sent a new prophet to deliver the people.
Jesus came to deliver all of us from slavery and bondage to sin and into the Promised Land of everlasting life and freedom. Jesus came to restore our relationship with the Father. Jesus is the way, the Truth, the Life, and He shows us as a better Moses on Christmas morning.
Ponder in this: Why do you think some of Moses’ final words were a promise of Jesus?
