Promise from an Insignificant Birth

An old man lay on his bed and called his sons to his side. For a final time, Jacob, the father of a the new nation of Israel, blessed each one of them. It is here, in his words we encounter Christmas. He tells his son that one of his descendants will be a king. This king is not going to be an ordinary king. He will not just rule over a single country or region. This king is Jesus Christ! Israel thought Jesus was coming to establish and restore a political nation. Jesus, however, comes with all authority to bring salvation to all people. Christmas does not come for one people, it came for all people. The good news of Christmas is of a righteous King is coming into the world to set up a Kingdom that is not of this world. This Kingdom is for ALL people, ALL nations, ALL culture, ALL languages. ALL PEOPLE! Jesus was born in an tiny town in a small country, but He will reign forever as King of kings and Lord of Lords, and His salvation is for the ends of the earth. This is the promise of the Old Testament.

Today Ponder:

Why do we think such a powerful King was born in such an insignificant way?
