We have spent the last few days examining our craving and desires for approval in all the wrong places. So how do we find our approval in Christ when it seems like there are so many other places we can get it?
We have to be in God’s Word to know what God says about us. We need the Holy Spirit to reveal and discern the lies evil uses to get us to thinking that we are not good enough, we do not have what it takes, and no one will like the real you. The only way to beat a lie is with truth!
Satan wants to steal, kill, and destroy your life.
10 A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance. John 10:10
He does this by trying to tell you that you are a nobody. He brings thoughts to you and uses others in your life to speak his lies. Satan is the father of lies. God desperately wants you to know that you are His son or daughter. He wants you to know that you do matter to Him! God’s word says you are chosen, called, and you are His masterpiece! The Bible says God is Truth!
12 But to all who did receive him, he gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name, John 1:12
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9
Because God is truth, it makes sense that satan wants to pull us further from the God of all truth. What does this look like in our daily lives?
Practice limiting your time on social media platforms comparing your life to others.
Start serving others to take the focus off you and putting it on others.
Find scripture that says who you are according to God and repeat them, study them, and write them on your heart so the lies you believed can be erased and replaced by truth.
Whatever it looks like to you, make a plan to beat the approval trap.
Being consumed by what people say about you makes you forget what God knows about you.
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride in one’s possessions—is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 And the world with its lust is passing away, but the one who does the will of God remains forever. 1 John 2:15-17
