When you have come to that point to realize God is indeed in control, you have “arrived.” So do we do nothing but sit back and watch God do His stuff? Not quite.
Think of it in terms of a baby having been born. Are they at the end of their growth? No, they grow to maturity. When we “arrive” it is time to start journeying for a lifelong journey towards spiritual maturity. This means we walk in a constant cycle of growing until we get to heaven. This is not a discouragement but know, we do not have to have it all together right now.
When you look at the air in a room, it appears to pure and clean. If you allow a ray of sunshine to beam across the room you see that there are tiny dust particles reflected in the light. They were there all the time, but they were invisible to see. Think of this in terms of you and I. The little dust particles are “issues” that God illuminates in our lives and God brings attention to them.
13 Everything exposed by the light is made visible, Ephesians 5:13
My responsibility is to be attentive to the Holy Spirit so He can show us our “dust.” The Holy SPirit guides us when we listen and obey the guidance He gives. The Holy SPirit will never burden me with more than I can handle. He knows what is best for me and has my best interest at heart.
When we allow the Holy Spirit to work within us, we are constantly being transformed on the inside. AS a true believer being transformed, we are not the old nature with Jesus attached to us. Think of it in terms of a butterfly. Through metamorphosis, a worm transforms into a butterfly. It does not emerge as a worm with wings. We will continually be in the process of transformation, which is exciting and liberating because it means God, through the Holy Spirit, is working to give me abundant life now and in eternity with Him!
So What does a transformed life look like?
I won’t just “stop” some behaviors, but how I think about them may change.
I will daily want to know God better, seeking opportunities to be with Him.
I will love God more and begin thinking more and more like Him – His worldview starts becoming my world view.
I will love others with God’s unselfish, generous love, something we are incapable of doing in our own strength.
God will use me for His purpose, often with my changed behavior impacting others.
I will have deep peace in my soul that is not dependant on external circumstances or people.
I am confident that I will spend my eternity in heaven with God.
As I trust in God and not my own understanding, He will guide me.
I will still be tempted to believe Satan’s lies, but I rely on the Holy Spirit, He will help me resist and overcome temptations.
12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2
Transformation is a process that will continue until I leave this earth. God will spend my lifetime pointing out my dust particles that He wants to work on with me. As I abide in Him, I surrender these areas of my life to Him and He shows me another dust particle. God will continually transform me into the image of His Son Jesus.
This is the process of spiritual maturity. Throughout this process we experience spiritual maturity, spiritual fruitfulness, and become a spiritual reproducing Christian, allowing the Holy SPirit to use us to bring others to Christ and encouraging them in their walk with God!
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways know him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6
29 For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. Romans 8:29
