When Gd tells us to wait on His will, He always has a very clear reason. His wait is without question for our benefit. Waiting is essential to our discipleship journeys. Walking in obedience to God and receiving the best of His blessings is worth the wait.
In todays world, where everything is instant, being patient is difficult. Our brains are programmed to have everything instantaneous. When we need an answer we have these little computers in our pockets that can give us instant answers. When we want something, we almost never have to wait to get it. God is not of this world, and His ways are not always instant.
Failing to wait on God can bring our lives disastrous consequences. When we refuse to wait, we get out of His will. When we decide to go ahead of God, we delay His planned blessing for our lives. When we move ahead of His steps we get out of cycle with God and miss the blessing of His timing. When we refuse to wait, we bring pain and suffering upon ourselves and others.
Throughout scripture we see the resulting pain people endured from getting outside of God’s will and doing life in their own way and strength. When we do not wait upon the Lord we make snap judgements that quite often turn out to cost us in our finances, emotional energy, and relationships.
Many of us are unwilling to wait upon the Lord for His timing, especially when it involves letting go of our own desires. Desires are not sinful, but when we get so focused on the desire and loose focus on God, we act out of desperation to get what we want. When our eyes are not on God, we manipulate situations to our will and make a colossal mess of things.
WHen we reach for things that are of God, it always turns to ash. God will never prosper what we manipulate. No matter how hard we try, it will never work out. We can repent, back off, and wait on the Lord or we can step ahead of Him and lose it.
Somethings may be the will of Lord, but when we step ahead of Him and His timing, we ruin the greatest blessing He has in store for us. We all can live much happier lives when we learn to wait upon the Lord, obey Him with courage, faith and trust.
“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart be courageous. Wait for the Lord.”
