As children of God we are never victims of our circumstances.
To say that life is not simple, is an understatement. In our journey into discipleship, we stumble over many bumps in the road. Our race is a very real battle. Painful experiences pierce our hearts. However, our circumstances DO NOT define who we are or how we react. As believers our behavior in every situation should honor the Lord Jesus Christ. Our identity needs to be rooted in the salvation He’s provided for us.
God knows our lives are not all butterflies, glitter and sunshine. When we received Jesus as our Savior, he set us on a course and never promised the way would be easy. As our Sovereign Lord, he mapped out all the numbs, turns, detours, hills, valleys and mountains. He knows tomorrow and knows all the difficulties yet to come. He knows we are going to continually clash with the world, our flesh, and evil until our race is done.
But God is good! He did not just set us on a path and wish us well hoping we would find our way. No, He sent us the Holy Spirit to indwell in us to quite us, encourage us, and comfort us. Endurance requires something that does not come easily and that is trust. It’s the first basic key to walking with Him we learn. Jesus speaks to us:
“But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.”
John 14:26 CSB
The Holy Spirit reminds us of God’s faithfulness and power that we can trust in Him and remain committed to Him.
When the going gets rough, we need to seek God’s courage to take a stand and not run away in fear. We need God’s endurance and strength so we do not quit. The longer we faithfully obey and trust Him, no matter the circumstances, the stronger our faith becomes. He prepares us for greater service and expands our ministry and testimony. He fills us with strength, stalwart, and steadfastness.
Christ, who endured the cross, lives in us! There is not a single situation, circumstance, or emotion he has not endured. We need to seek Him to infuse us with His power and wisdom and obey anything He commands of us. We must remember, we are NEVER victims or circumstance because our Sovereign God can use everything that has happen to us for our blessing and His glory!
