discouragement is inevitable.

Disappointments are inevitable, but discouragement is a choice.

God has a plan for each of our lives. His plan does not change according to unexpected circumstances. We are going to encounter situations that do not line up with our understanding of how God wants our life to proceed. The key is to stop and look for Him for direction.

Disappointments can be a way God wants us to learn to rely on Him for fully and to walk by faith not sight. While disappointments are inevitable, it is our choice to be disappointed. We need to guard our hearts from allowing disappointments from stealing our enthusiasm or confidence in Him.

We have a real hope and a real choice for joy and abundant living in Christ. When we chose Christ, we chose a hope that protects us against the threat of disappointments that consumer our emotional resources and deflect our attention away from the Lord. Circumstances do not control us; Jesus does!

Do not let your feelings make you a victim. Instead, choose to look to God, listen, learn and move ahead. When we do, the wounded, dejected places in our heart and the scars of disappointments will be restored by God’s love.

God has blessings for each of us! He has more blessings that we could ever imagine, but disappointments steal that blessing from us. We need to practice letting go of disappointments and the fear of hoping and trusting again. God holds our future in His hands. We can never lose by placing our lives in His hands and looking forward to what He has in store for us!

Though the fig tree does not bud and there is no fruit on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though the flocks disappear from the pen and there are no herds in the stalls, yet I will celebrate in the Lord; I will rejoice in the God of my salvation! The Lord my Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like those of a deer and enables me to walk on mountain heights! For the choir director: on stringed instruments.
