the plans that turn to ash.

Whatever we acquire outside of God’s will eventually turns to ashes.

This is a harsh statement but a truth we need to understand. The deepest desire in every human heart is to know God. This is how he made every single human. We were made this way so that no worldly thing could ever satisfy us. Only God can fill our deepest needs.

The problem is we do not understand the longing within us to be a desire for God. We may only feel dissatisfaction with life. A relationship we wanted and attained isn’t what we thought it would be. Even if you have everything you desire, you still experience periods of longing, sadness, and loneliness.

Dissatisfaction, unfulfilled expectations, and feelings of dejection and isolation originate from a hunger for God. Saint Augustine wrote: “You made us for yourself, and our heart is restless until is rests in you.” Once e satisfy ourselves with God’s presence, we require less of what the world has to offer.

A relationship with Lord comes with His promise to reveal more of Himself as we fellowship with him. When we develop our relationship with the Lord and discover more about His holy character, He illuminates your heart and mind, giving us a greater desire to know Him. The desire for fleshly things are left behind in the process. Our worldly desires cannot compare to the comfort, joy, and fulfillment our Heavenly Father offers us. We begin to see the things we acquired outside of His Will turning to ash.

We learn that while acquiring anything outside of His will ultimately leads to disappointments and misery, He fills us with truly satisfying pleasures forever.

You reveal the path of life to me; in your presence is abundant joy; at your right hand are eternal pleasures.
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭16‬:‭11‬ ‭CSB‬‬
