The key to continued peace with God is the fruit of oneness with Him.
Our lives are going to be a continuation of storms. Some storms we can see coming. Some storms jump up out of nowhere. There will always be a little rain falling upon us. No one is exempt from difficulties. When difficulties come we often have a knee jerk reaction to ask “why?”. Then we often get anxious over how this storm is going to impact our lives. This is a normal reaction, but there’s another response we need to program into our thought process: turn to the One who holds all comfort and security in His grasp.
Paul speaks to us:
“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 CSB
How do we flip anxiety on its head?
One of the first steps is to recognize anxiety for what it really is. Anxiety is the complete opposite of peace. It is the fan to the flames of doubt, confusion and fear. Anxiety has the ability to leave us helplessly bundled in worry and fear. Our thoughts of anxiety cause us to loose our spiritual focus and mindset. The key to overcoming is only found in the presence of God.
Next, we have to accept God’s timetable and limitations He places on a given situation to help dispel anxiety. We need to let Him provide in His timing. When we accept that life is a gift from Him, we will find mercy and grace, forgiveness and hope, peace and an everlasting security.
Anxiety is a tough behavior to rewire in our brains. We need to shut that super highway down in our brain by letting God fill our hearts with His peace. I find the best way to deal with it is to express it to my Heavenly Father. I tell Him why I am afraid. I tell Him what I am feeling and also pray scripture back that says He is Lord God Almighty and I do not have to be afraid because He understands and knows life can be difficult. Our peace resides in our Savior who loves us unconditionally. He’s promised to deliver us into the arms of our Heavenly Father.
What are you worried about today?
Do you believe that God will meet your needs, provide a path through the storm? Talk to Him and place your trust in Him.
“I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, Lord, make me live in safety.”
Psalms 4:8 CSB
