the thrill of trusting God

Trusting God means looking beyond what we can see to seeing what God sees.

In our discipleship journey we are going to encounter mammoth sized trials and difficulties. We have to learn from God’s Word how to respond to threats by laying hold of a victorious faith that looks beyond what we see to what God sees.

In the times of testings and trials, God stretches our faith and deepens our dependence upon Him. Without a strings faith we are subject to temptations and fear. These temptations and fears can quickly seed when the trail or difficulty is intense or prolonged.

No matter what the giant, we need to bury a one truth deep within our hearts: God loves you. When we place our trust completely in Him, His triumph is promised. We may go through times of failure. Life may not be what we thought it was going to be or planned, but when our trust is in God, we glorify Him despite our own failures. In return He blesses our lives exceedingly.

Every challenge and difficulty is opportunity for the Lord God to display His faithfulness and love for us. We need to make a commitment to trust God and refuse to have doubt and fear. We do not know what tomorrow brings, but God’s Word is perfect truth. We need to train ourselves to look beyond what we can see to what He sees.

How? We start by coming up with a list of things to consider in all our trials, circumstances, and when we face giants. The following is the list taped in the back of my Bible. I have learned to train myself to control my emotions and to instead look at the spiritual facts of the situation:

  • Recall past victories
  • Reject discouraging words
  • Recognize the true nature of the battle
  • Respond to the challenge with a true confession. (Sometimes our trials are because God wants to show us something about ourselves. Our responsibility is responding to that truth. If you were doubting, confess it. It you are fearful, confess it. If you were being disobedient, confess it. God honors our honesty towards Him.)
  • Rely on the power of God
  • Reckon the Victory
  • Before responding, what does my response say about the Kingdom of God and Christ my Savior

We can face anything with confidence because it is not our strength, energy, hope, or power that brings the victory. Triumph comes because of Christ’s ability. When we place our trust in Him, we tap into a power that nothing can successfully oppose.

The thrill and wonder comes from watching God work within us to help us over comes. Just the smallest step in faith, trusting Him, can bring huge leaps of faith built in us.

What stands between you and complete trust in Him?

Then Elisha prayed, “Lord, please open his eyes and let him see.” So the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he saw that the mountain was covered with horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”
‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭6‬:‭17‬ ‭CSB‬‬

“Blessed is the one who endures trials, because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”
‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭12‬ ‭CSB‬‬
