4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me
and rescued me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him are radiant with joy;
their faces will never be ashamed.
Psalms 34:4-5
It is going to take time to see changes in your thought process and behavior. When you fly on autopilot for long periods of time and allow your automatic worldly self to respond, act and speak, it is going to take time and diligence to allow the Holy Spirit to change this process from the world’s way to God’s way. Think about how long you have been walking with the world and think in terms of how long you are walking with Christ. It is going to take time for that transformation. If it was easy, then everyone would do it.
I believe there is a reason why it took six days for God to create the world. He took something that was dark and void and lifeless and wanted to show us it takes time to create change. Each day something great was done. Each day is was something small that added to an entire picture. At the end of the day He would look upon His own creation and celebrate what was done. God did not look at what was not done. He did not focus on what was left to do. He said it was “good,” and started again the next day.
We need to be careful that we do not start complaining about what has not been done, and stay focused on the change happening right now. It can be something small. CHange takes time because real. permanent change is a process, not a simple quick fix. Renewing of our minds happens when we celebrate even our smallest of victories and focus on what God is doing, instead of what He is not.
God never compared the messy process of change to the beautiful heaven where He resides. This world is all we know. It is one of the most amazing and beautiful places we have ever resided. Can you image how much less it is compared to heaven? God did not sit back at the end of the day and compare His creation. We need to be careful that we do not compare ourselves to others in our own journey.
The devil will try to come in and destroy everything you and our Heavenly Father through Christ is working. He hates the idea that as God is removing your blinders, unclogs your ears, and focuses your eyes upon Him. He knows that truth, God’s Word, will set you free from his grasp and he hates it. Once he loses control over you, he knows he has a less likely chance of you believing his lies. One of his lies is to get you to comparing your journey to others.
We are all on different days of creation. We must fix our hearts and eyes upon Christ and keep them there. The minute we shift to focusing on another’s journey we start to compare. When we start to compare, we start to complain. When we start to complain we start to covet. They the hard work stalls and we become disenchanted with God. That is what the devil wants to do. He wants to cause division between you and God. He is not going to let you go without a fight. Get comfortable within your own skin!
The greatest joy comes by knowing who you are and who you are not. Getting comfortable with your new identity allows you to be happy in your own skin. You can be the authentic you God created you to be. It does not matter if you look like you are lagging behind or way ahead of everyone else. The point of change is the relationship you are building between you and your Heavenly Father. Every journey may have similarities with others, but it is unique to you! Do not allow others to tell you where they think you should be or what you should be doing. Just stay on the path and speed at which Christ has you at. He know you and will guide you and lead you.
If your neighbor’s lawn is greener than yours, start watering your lawn! Every day wake up with the intentionality and desire to be the best version God has created you to be.
6 I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6
