belief vs feelings

We possess what we confess and we possess salvation by confessing Jesus as our Lord and Savior of our lives. We possess God’s promises by confessing them with our mouths. When we regularly confess only what we feel and see, we are hurting our faith and the change we hope to see in our mindset does not happen.

When God saw the the world was in darkness, vid, and without form (Genesis 1:2) He did not use His words to describe the situation. He used His the power of His word to change the situation. Do not get caught up in using your mouth as a thermometer, which only reads the temperature of the current conditions. We must allow God’s Word to turn our mouth into a thermostat which changes our lives by confessing what he says.

The Lord instructed Joshua:

8 This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to meditate on it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do. Joshua 1:8

Joshua had to read God’s Word. Joshua had to study God’s Word. Joshua had to speak the Word of God. The same was true when Jesus encountered satan in the desert. We learn that Satan temps us the same way he tempted Jesus. Jesus did not think scripture to combat the devil, he spoke the scripture.

Evil thoughts can be powerful in our minds, but when we open our mouths and speak I line with God’s Word, evil flees from our presence. If we open our mouths and speak about our feelings and circumstance, there’s no power to resist, flee, or deny evil a place in our mind.

10 Beat your plows into swords
and your pruning knives into spears.
Let even the weakling say, “I am a warrior.”
Joel 3:10

Joel tells us don’t speak what feel all the time, but instead speak the words of our Lord and and even the weakest become warriors.

23 Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believesthat what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Mark 11:23

12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of eternal life to which you were called and about which you have made a good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and those who love it will eat its fruit
. Proverbs 18:21

The renewing of our minds comes from not only study, reading, but also speaking God’s Word into the faces of the enemy that seeks to destroy you.
