Discovering the Presence of God through His Word

Every morning I pray for the presence of my Heavenly Father to surround me. To be able to walk with Him in deeper waters. To have a faith that trust completely. To know him, trust him, obey him, and love him more today than yesterday. I pray to experience him in all I do. Yesterday I wrote about how the heavens declare the glory of God and this reveals that we are made in his unique image.

We can experience the presence of God in his converting Word. We are so fortunate to live in an age that we have the complete Word of God at our finger tips! Can you imagine living during a time when only the religious leaders had the Word of God. You would have to go to the temple to hear preaching. Today, we have the Bible!

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. Psalm 19:7

You can know about God, but it’s his word that reveals the heart and mind of God. God’s word is perfect and converts our soul. Truth never inspires errors. The word of God makes wise the simple! When we understand the word of God, we have a sure place to stand on. It’s a solid rock foundation and not sand.

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. Matthew 7:24-27

Jesus even spoke that the word of God is the rock we need to build our lives upon. God’s truth stands the test of storms and troubles.

The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. Psalm 19:8

The translated word “right” refers to a straight path. God’s word never leads us astray. The way of wickedness is hard.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

God’s statutes are right and bring rejoicing to the heart!

Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 1 Corinthians 13:6

Joy is found in the Word of God.

The commandment of the Lord is enlightening to our eyes. God does not hide truth from those he knows. He reveals it to us through His word. The word “pure” (verse 8) means that there is no error in it. God wants us to search, seek, and discover him in his word. Did you know there are well over 6,000 promises by God? I’ve found 52 so far, and have a long ways to go to finding the other 5,942+.

The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. Psalm 19:9

The fear of the Lord is not a literal fear. This is having reverence for God and his commands. When we respect someone we listen to them and treat what they say as truth. IF God says, do not steal, we honor him and respect him by not stealing. We keep that commandment because we know what the spiritual consequences are by breaking it. We sin not because we love our Heavenly Father and respect his commands. God’s word endures forever.

There was a horrible ruler that once tried to get rid of every copy of the bible. He succeeded and had a statue made to commemorate the event. Funny thing, the Bible still exists today. God’s word can not be destroyed permanently. It has endured for thousands of years! It flourishes in countries were the Bible is banned.

10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Psalm 19:10

God’s word is more precious that any physical treasure on this earth! We can not love God without loving His word! God’s word is a treasure!

13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. 14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. 15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Psalm 3:13-15

This is the one treasure you can posses that no one can steal from you! Memorizing his Word, applying it to our daily life and all circumstances is a treasure! No one can take away the Word of God from your heart!

11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. Psalm 19:11

God protects us through his word! He warns us hurt, harm, and the future. There is not one human condition that can not be found in his word. Depression, addiction, anxiety, loneliness, emptiness, forgiveness, fear, bitterness, anger, conflict… all of these and more are found in His word. We can look to him to not only warn us, but also to teach us and help us overcome.

There is great profit in the word of God. He promises that when we love him with all our heart, soul, and spirit, he will bless us beyond what we can ever imagine. HE promises that when we keep his commandments and statues, we will be filled with a peace and joy that no one can take away from us!

We can experience the presence of God when we sink our teeth into his word. We discover his character. We discover just how mighty and great his love, grace, and mercy is for us. We discover his forgiveness and his purpose and will for our lives. WE discover his heart and mind by discovering what he loves, who he loves, and what he hates.

God’s character is perfect and never changing. We can trust that as we discover who God is in his word, that he is unchanging and and we can trust in his goodness and faithfulness.
