Jesus: the cure to Disappointment!

This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him. John 2:11

Can miracles still happen? We’re miracles only preformed in the Bible times?

Every miracle Jesus preformed was bigger than the miracle in its self. It was a sign with a message on it for us. 30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe[b] that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:29-31

Jesus’ miracles were preformed and recorded so that we might believe upon him. We can believe in miracles, but we must trust Jesus. The greatest miracle he performs is the transformation of our lives. To call us from the grave, remove the old nature and give us a new nature.

The miracle of water into wine helps us to understand disappointment. It starts at a wedding. Jesus attended weddings and funerals. The bride and groom are not mentioned in scripture by name but they were significant. Jesus loves you and me. He loves everyday “normal” people. We know this because their names were not given. Weddings happen everyday. This wasn’t a feast or festival. This was an everyday happening. Jesus wants to be involved not only I our everyday issues, but he is interested in everyone, everyday, and everything.

Jesus has a way of turning everything monotonous to momentous! He’s taking care of the small things while also taking care of the big things.

There’s symbolism in this miracle he preformed.

6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. 7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. John 2:6-8

It was custom in Hebrew weddings for the best wine to be served first. As people drank and celebrated the wedding, their taste dulled and the lesser quality wine was served. When Jesus turned the water into wine, the governor was served. Everyone knew about the order of wine served. He immediately wanted to know were it came from.

Wine I the Bible represents joy.

15 And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man’s heart. Psalm 104:15

This is not an intoxicating wine. The joy and refreshment that Jesus gives does not have a serpent in it. This is pure wine, not polluted wine. Intoxication is Satan’s substitution for Jesus’ Joy. only through Jesus can we experience true joy!

6 water pots is a symbol for mankind. The number 6 in the Bible represents man.

Clay jars is a symbol of man being made from the dust and clay of the earth.

These were no regular clay pots filled with water. The water itself had to go through the Hebrew custom of purification.

Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem. 2 And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault. 3 For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. Mark 7:1-3

They washed their hands many times before they sat dow to eat. This idea was ceremonial and not sanctification. This represents religious practice and not redemption. The water pots were the traditions of religion. It’s the idea you go to church because it’s the tradition. You tithe because you’re told to. You read your Bible because you’re told to. You pray because you’re told to. We become cold stone pots with ritualism.

Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. John 2:7

Jesus filled the pots to the brim. This is showing us that Jesus came to fulfill the law. The pots were filled, but it was the well that was changed.

8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. John 1:8

Jesus said, I am fulfilling the old, and bringing you new. You don’t need to be the six water pots, you now have me. The wine the wedding started with was the best, but it was a limited quantity. Jesus gave them an endless well of superior wine. That superior wine is joy! It’s given in abundance.

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Ephesians 3:20

The secret behind this miracle is to become a servant.

5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. John 2:5

The best advice we can ever get, if Jesus speaks to you and tells you to do something, you better do it.

7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. John 2:7-9

If we want to be on the inside spiritually, we need to be servants. We need to tune our ears into the Holy Spirit and listen to our Lord. Servants know things. They see and hear. Listen and do.

Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. Amos 3:7

God reveals to his servants.

Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. John 15:15

We are friends with Jesus and in his inner circle. We get there by being servants.

The secret behind this miracle is gladness.

When the servants obeyed Jesus, everyone at the wedding was blessed. Their obedience was not only for their good, but for other’s gladness. When God preforms a miracle, he always does it through someone else. This is why we need to have that quiet time with the Holy Spirit. To sit and listen. So when God calls, we are ready.

The secret behind this miracle is the Glory of God

This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him. John 2:7

When the miracle was done, Jesus’ glory was manifested. When we obey, Jesus’ glory is manifested. Our obedience glorifies him. We ca not call Christ Lord and walk in rebellion and disobedience. It dishonors God.

God will ask us to do things we don’t understand. We don’t have to understand, we just have to obey.

The significance of this miracle is that a Jesus is in the transformation business. He turned worthless water into the best wine. This is how he transform us when we take on the new creature through salvation. If we want true transformation in our lives it only comes from Jesus. He is our miracle worker. With Jesus, it just keeps getting better.

With Jesus, life always gets better and better. He gives us the best last! Satan gives his best first. Disappointments are Satan’s way to get us to doubt and not believe that Jesus does give us his best. When situations don’t go as we want. When prayer isn’t answered how we want, it’s easy to get disappointment. We think God has forgotten us or doesn’t care about us. The truth is he does and he only wants to give us the best. Disappointments are hallelujahs. When a door doesn’t open, keep knocking. He will open the right door.

I battling disappointment right now. Not with Jesus or my Heavenly Father, but with people. Our greatest disappointment comes from our relationships. I was fooled into believing someone was a completely different person and it breaks my heart. Because of their choices and decisions, Satan uses it to get me to doubt what the Holy Spirit has spoken over my marriage and family. I’m disappointed in the lying. I’m disappointed in all the scheming, deception, and manipulation used. I’ve learned the past few days, we have to get our eyes off the circumstances and people, and keep them on Jesus.

I have no doubt what was spoken. It glorifies God in a spectacular way! I can see from him he’s working something amazing, a miracle, but I can’t see him working it. It’s hard to just accept I don’t understand how, but I just focus on The Who. Even though there’s disappointments, my heart is still filled with a great joy. Joy in know I serve a God who loves me. A God whose will, will be done. The wicked never prosper, but the righteous do. Disappointments are an opportunity to chose to trust, not by sight, but by faith that he is working.
